    In “an explanation I would have assessed for 0% chance of being correct”, my father had a sudden burst of vertigo and a Californian said “Oh the crystals in your ear are out of alignment.” Astoundingly, and confirmed by a doctor, that is an actual thing.

        Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. He can do an at-home Epley maneuver to fix (works in 80% of cases), sometimes need to perform multiple times.

        There can be numerous causes for vertigo. Some of them are relatively benign, but PLEASE get it properly checked it, because it can also be something more dangerous like acoustic neuroma. If its crystals (aka BPV), then relatively easily treated with Epley Maneuvere
