Will the experience change if one is a vegetarian?

Japan can accommodate vegetarians but it has some frustrations and you’re going to find yourself repeating yourself quite a bit, especially outside of Tokyo.

Could spend a substantial vacation just going to stuff *in Ueno Park*

the Meguro Parasitological Museum was closed for renovations during my 2nd visit, but seems to be open again. It appears that a parasite researcher came out and sold me the T-shirt with a cutaway diagram of a parasite that I got there.

Also: Osaka has elements of both while having gregarious, fun people :)

I had been here a few times for work. Now back w/ family on vacation, they are in absolute awe. I think many people in the West (at least my relatives/friends in US, Europe and South America) underestimate the amazing experience, and overestimate its cost and language barrrier.

Kyoto and Hakone are both amazing, and an awesome contrast to Tokyo

I agree with all your points except being able to find "anything". Tokyo is no longer the electronics Mecca that it once was. Still a fabulous, wonderful place to visit though.
