That’s difficult to do given quickly growing companies, though. You cut X to 0.8X but if they are doubling every 4 months then a) your engagement crazily worthwhile b) tough to justify any given number w/o *great* attribution.

Been doing exactly this for over a year now. There are subtleties that make it significantly more challenging than you’d expect.

Having seen some of the sausage made at scale I do not doubt that it is very much not a "show up and just make it rain money" thing, but then the same is pretty much true of e.g. my old line of work.

I know of one large enterprise that suddenly found itself with seven digits of AWS bill... mostly made up of old test instances that were "leaked". Definitely a big opportunity for someone who's good at getting into those types of relationships.
