If only those numbers applied to Japan as well.

My anecdotal impression is that the Japanese offices of AppAmaGooBookSoft come pretty close to matching their US numbers, particularly if one is a foreigner who quotes their US numbers or competitors' against them. (I am aware of people whose second offer was $100k over first.)

I’m assuming these numbers are all inflated because of the Silicon Valley bubble that isn’t reality for the rest of the country outside maybe New York.

IMO, both. Many SF companies are hiring in Vancouver (and Seattle, and Portland, and remote…) because they can’t fill enough chairs in SF.
