I think Facebook has made people realize just how dangerous it is to have all your content wrapped up in one entity. I believe it will take a few years for things to unwind and restore balance.

creators shouldn't have to think like this - like businessy marketers and run a storefront. we need better artist-focused businesses and indie nonprofits than the old record labels/art dealers/book publishers. and we need better societal norms around investing in scenes you dig

Editors from a few pretty big sites are on my email list. Occasionally, one will reply to my weekly newsletter with “This is great, can we publish it as-is on SITE?” Then I scramble to publish on my site and say “Sure! Here’s the original: LINK. Please use that for attribution.”
