As a judgement-free statement of engineering reality: small businesses are abominably bad at data security and almost all of them benefit from having their data on someone else's computer, monitored by the competent engineering/ops team they can't afford.

And aren't they more interesting targets for threats for that reason? They're hubs of interesting data. Instead a small company could use its insignificance as protection.

Your adversary is less "Someone who cares about you specifically" and more "A for loop designed to deploy ransomware at scale" or "Your own operational errors", neither of which depend on the objective scale of your data.
