As I've often mentioned, Bank of America has caught 27 of the last 0 fraudulent attempts to use my card from Japan (despite multiple notes on the account and the primary address being in Japan), so that might actually help me quite a bit.

Many banks use a "call us before you travel" (which has migrated to web apps because calls are $$$) model for this, since bouncing someone's CC at their hotel is a terrible user experience, and sometimes people really do have to buy a Macbook when traveling.

I've heard rumours that some banks now have information sharing agreements with some airlines for the purpose of knowing when and where their customers are traveling.

Depending on the exact payment rails used (e.g. which card network), those are available to the issuing bank (the CC company) by default. You'll sometimes see them on your statements.
