Because Japan has a time-honored tradition of abusing workers, including engineers, and this seems like a reasonable option here.

Is there an opportunity for outsourcing to Japan? I know plenty of places that would be happy to pay >> $50k / year for a remote engineer.

I think theres definitely some underutilized talent at competitive rates, but also a lot of outdated skillsets and methodologies.
