And note that any solution you come up with has to be robust against very smart, motivated attackers w/ full access to your source code.

In addition to source code, we can see the development process, parts of which (e.g., TurboTax lobbying) are designed to make taxes harder.

So a good tax code might not be as simple as you would like, but it would be simpler than what we have.
