Not just in the sense of spreadsheets, although Google Docs is an almost-Excel (for a very critically important sense of almost).

It depends on what you use Excel for. If analytics you can do it in Python/R. If project management you Jira or Trello.

This is why it hasn’t been outdone: it’s 100% generic. Trying to link to a particular use or model makes it a non-excel; no longer competes.

Disagree. Indication is that the spreadsheet is a platonic form. Like others, it was invented early and changed little since.

There are 3 types of software: 1. Shrink-wrap software 2. Spreadsheets 3. Programming languages All invented quickly & conserved since.
