Codecommit, bare bones yes, can test any triggers attached to the repo; skipping the unnecessary commit but then I guess the docs suffer

I like systems where you don't need the "useless" commit (see Concourse.ci) but I also absolutely love Patrick's lemon/ade trick!

If it's GitLab you're using, consider a quick GitLab CI yaml script so you can trigger a build via the API (curl)...
