One of the best ways to motivate little kids to learn math (n = 2 admittedly) is to present it as secrets for cheating.

Although I didn't know it, I had accidentally reinvented Monte Carlo sampling, by hand since I didn't own a computer at the time.

(Incidentally, Large Pulse Lasers first. Science says so. The mechanism is they strip the armor and then your SRMs rack up more crits.)
