I think this is a major part of the discourse of "side hustle" vis developers. I wish we would treat ourselves like professionals w/ agency.

Nobody ever uses it when it's e.g. a university professor with a "side hustle" speaking, consulting, or authoring books.

It took me a long time after owning a business to identify with being a business owner, so I think I get the desire to self-diminish scope.

The phrase "a hustle" somewhat heavily connotates "something you should not be doing." (A class-freighted interpretation, to be true.)
