It still shocks me that we _allow_ these practices. I do hope the gig economy can help reduce the impact of these kinds of behaviors.
I do worry that as people move to 1099 labor their ability to collectively bargain goes away. Labor unions can be a strong force for good.
This is way more an American thing, most countries' labor laws don't allow it for "obvious" reasons.
