At one company I worked at we overloaded the employee#nameInKanji field and if it included only foreign characters assumed they didn't exist

e.g. OPEN_JOB_REQ, INCOMING_INTERN, etc. We then excluded so-called virtual employees from e.g. payroll processing because not real people.

This worked pretty well until the company hired someone who, to their befuddlement, hit isVirtualEmployee() b/c no kanji in name (what!?!)
