It's not the new hotness by any stretch of the imagination, but I just love how ridiculously productive I am with Rails.

You send newsletters from rails? Custom or using any OSS app for this?

Custom code both for designing the newsletters and for hosting the online archive pages; I do the actual sending via (most recently) Drip.

Drip looks nice but doesn't it do newsletters or is it just automation? And if they do, why custom code instead of their app?

I like keeping my content in flat files locally that I can turn into e.g. mails or PDFs or blog posts rather than having them in apps.

Drip is pretty full-featured as an email provider; automation is their best feature but can also do regular newsletters/etc.
