Gifu is Japan's answer to Kansas. They maintain one branch in Tokyo, far from me, mostly to service their megacorp clients.

I can see "creepy" if one comes from a "I expect you to be an API which moves money around"; I find it rather endearing.

I do consider banks to be an API for moving money around (and not a very good one at that...) but it's a bit more than that.

I've had similar experiences at US retail banks, but only (certain) small ones. But I had highly unusual/recognizable transactions

I've also had megabank bankers try to be personal and fail, reacting to a routine transaction with inordinate excitement.
