I do not like trivia-heavy interview techniques because they test for shared experience which exposed one to the trivia.

For example, a huge portion of algorithms questions test whether you've locally cached a close variant of that question.

"Reverse a tree" / "Implement Towers of Hanoi" / etc are all examples of this; almost explicitly tests "How recent was undergrad for you?"

@patio11 this is a major challenge in interviewing data scientist candidates also. Maybe worse than searching for developers. -
@patio11 I've found it nice to ask candidates to solve the same problem in multiple clearly defined ways so at least one matches their exp.
