It's difficult to do your best work when worried about making rent, and if you present as poor, businesses will treat you as a poor person.

Poor people make a lot of excuses. There's the generally accepted reason for this, and it has some truth, but there's also a subtler one. /2

It's that poor people need to have reasons to do things. They will be judged. Well-off people just do things. No explanation asked or req'd.
