Consultants should generally have two rates: free and "the rate." Avoid discounting; needing to suggests non-$ issues w/ client & your biz.

I have on occasion provided discounts to folks I knew from the Internet. While I remember them, they mostly remember the gig not the price.

"I would love working with X." is an excellent reason to work with X. If you're working, charge your rate, because you're working.

If X does not want to pay your rate, harsh truth incoming: X does not love working with you. You will often find your gig deprioritized.
