Checked some databases. It seems I've written about 1.6 million words in 8 years. 1 million on HN, 600k on my sites. (Suboptimal ratio.)

@lcpriest Writing an essay takes between 3 and 6 hours, typically clocks in at 4k to 8k words, so naively that is about ~22 WPM. - 1 more reply

@patio11 I bet it's these 1 million words that earned you quite a bit of HN audience, though. Maybe the ratio was exactly right back then. -
@patio11 and maybe it's just me but the best comments tend to look more like essays—being longer and making sense when read in isolation.
