Cloistered? Outside of certain societies (e.g. Amish (and even they have Rumspringa)), I can't imagine any teenager being cloistered.

It would be difficult to imagine, back in my days as a standard American high schooler, having a meaningful conversation or relationship with someone engaged in business, politics, science, etc etc etc. Functionally all non-familial relationships with adults were through school.

You already have essentially adult capacity (in terms of access to learning resources) in many domains, but particularly technology. Exploit those resources and the time you have for experimentation. Make things.
