Software is default permitted. Healthcare is default denied. Here’s the difference in a single anecdote, which FWIW I wouldn’t diagnose as being driven by desire for bad outcomes. After you’ve been steeped in organizational culture this is the only thing that sounds reasonable.https://twitter.com/robertwiblin/status/1262770915894538241 …

Can you imagine if you had to apply to the Federal Applied Software Teleauthority every time you changed “an algorithm, implementation, library, module, or ... used in a software, hardware, integrated computer system, or ... affecting interstate commerce”?

healthcare used to be default permitted, too. Apparently snake-oil is actually bad for you though, and the people selling snake-oil can come up with, maket, and sell new versions of it faster than it can be added to the deny-list or debunked.

Apparently the snake-oil age, from say 1875 up to say 1950, produced enormous gains in life expectancy and health, including things like every single antibiotic family used today—gains which stopped when the current regulatory framework was put into place post-thalidomide

The consequences of having too much freedom in healthcare are potentially more devastating than in , most, software. Approach makes sense when you think of the lowest level that these decisions are taken And the cascading effect of those decisions

As are the consequences of having too little freedom in healthcare, as we are seeing clearly now, with the US and UK topping the league tables for covid contagion

What does anyone with a new test risk by just using it without approval? Oh right, they wont get reimbursed by the Fed for conducting it.
