Is there any polite way to let someone know that they’re boring you, without resorting to dishonesty or misdirection?

I must not be bored. Boredom is the mind-killer. Boredom is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my boredom. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. Where the boredom has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Not sure I quite agree with this. I can be quite engaged with my own ideas, but if someone else talks and says boring things I can't concentrate and manners say that i have to interact / to pretend to care.

My mom used to say “if you’re bored you’re either lazy or stupid”. I’d probably change the delivery but the point is valid!
