I would’ve done anything for the right nudges. It wouldn’t have eaten into my social time or childhood time, which I made time for regardless. It would’ve replaced the time I felt frustrated, listless, disconnected, imprisoned

I present my kids with these fantastic achievements of other kids their age frequently. My observation is that it is not very motivating.

The game Rust is very much the center of attention for one of them these. 40 hours a week! They do minimum academics but do it consistently without nagging. They are well aware of options, but just choose fun escape with friends.

If you look at how I make my money now, it looks a lot more like what I was doing at age 14 than anything I did as a college student. (Unless you count the random forum post I made as a 19-year-old that led to a working relationship with one of my current clients.)

The hobbies I loved most as a kid became the career I'm lucky to enjoy now, but weren't employable skills. The skills people tried to get me to spend my time on when I was younger would have been useless now. You can be happy and maybe lucky, or unhappy and maybe lucky.
