The testing schedule is aware of the human calendar but the infection schedule is not, so if you see jukes in infection counts which line up with predictable human calendar events, you’re seeing the testing schedule. Consider the implications if this is true the other days, too.

I had internalised this for the usual "monday drops" , but I have to admit that the three successive drops getting as low as they did had me hoping (though if you look at the rolling averages, and the test counts things look better? on https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en/ at least)

These drops terrify me, as they make no sense. There are plenty of potential "hopeful patterns". This pattern defies sense. That's terrifying.
