"What do you mean 'programmable'?" One of many options: We hit you with a webhook when it is swiped. You can either do anything you'd normally do with a webhook, deny the transaction based on any logic you want, etc. Dynamically increase/decrease limits, permit/deny MCCs, etc.

Is this likely to expand to other countries soon?

Our general attitude is that we build products for the Internet. You should assume as time goes to infinity we want all of our products to work everywhere the Internet does, unless we're not allowed to do that. My only comment on timelines will generally be "Now available."

I've seen this feature before and perhaps you can answer a few questions I had - It seems that with issued cards you end up paying Stripe for using your own card(s) (instead of the merchant assuming all fees). Unlike regular cards that provides rewards in points or cashback
-
The question is - did I understand it wrong or is that the cost of having programmatic control over your business cards?

Do all new physical cards come with chips now?

(If someone received a replacement card in the mail from their financial institution, unexpectedly & nowhere near the exp. date, and the printing wasn't embossed and it had no chip, what would you be thinking?)

It took me a while (~60s? of focus) to understand that this was meant to solve expense controls. I'm also wondering: how do I pay the bill? From my Stripe balance? Do I send money from bank acct to Stripe?
-
And while I think about this, seems like a big brain move from Stripe's perspective: - No credit risk to card user - No reward program, no cost - Merchant isn't Stripe: still collect interchange fee - Merchant is Stripe = issuer: probably still collect 3% cut
