Thinking this through: Has she ever even *seen* a map? She's seen Dora the Explorer, but the map there is a magical realism character and the knowledge it imparts is narrative, not spatial information. She's never seen a map screen because I didn't think she could read them.

I remember feeling underestimated as a child and have wondered to what degree I was underestimated and to what degree I had a childlike misunderstanding of the situation... Memo to self: make sure she remembers the map, b/c useful data point there.
