Do you feel okay using a free early access product (say a note-taking app) that you like for a couple of months then be told to pay $15/month weeks before release?
I wonder why most early access products don't have pricing plans? Would appreciate your thoughts, @patio11.

Exactly my thoughts. As a user, especially of a product where I invest a lot of time in, suddenly being charged a price that's out of my budget makes me feel disappointed and a waste of time. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Patrick - really appreciate it!

That was the thing that initially stopped me from using Roam. I didn't want to put all my notes and thoughts into something that I might not afford or want to pay. Now I think in the worst case I could export my data. But yeah, it would have been nice to know the price upfront.

That makes sense when it's possible... but I'd expect it's pretty common to not know enough about what your product will really be when you're getting those early users.

I agree. However, unless there's nothing like your product yet in the market — which is pretty rare — I think the least you can give is a ballpark figure of how much it's going to cost by studying competitors/similar products. You can always tweak the price later.
