Someone OSSed a thing I have previously had call to do with ImageMagick, down to "introduce sufficient artifacts to a digital scan to make it look like it went through an analog process so that it looks like a 'wet signature'"https://twitter.com/arvidkahl/status/1248523267712917504 …

Genius. They wrote a script to make a PDF look like it's printed, signed, and then scanned again. Because digital signatures are still not accepted in many places while a signed and scanned printout is. This is hacking bureaucracy. I love it! https://gitlab.com/edouardklein/falsisign …

Other bureaucracy hacks with ImageMagick include "Take a PDF file and embed the words Official Corporate Record on it."

"You didn't." Oh I definitely did. "We can't take that statement over email. Has to be an official company record." "See attachment." "OK that works."

"Seriously?!" Yep. General genre was "Produce a document officially documenting what X's pay was."

I have also done 在職証明書 ("Proof of Employment") for myself in a very similar fashion. "I need printed PoE." "I am self-employed." "Still need PoE." "I am the sole member of an LLC." "Don't know and don't care. I need PoE." "*sigh* <PoE />" "OK your filing is accepted."

Why do businesses / corporate processes ask for wet signatures anyways? What value does a signature even have?

I ask this because it seems that in the modern age of cryptography, looking at the shape of a signature to prevent forgery of documents seems to not be very effective, so there must be some other reason, or the value of this process doesn't lie in forgery prevention

The idea is brilliant, but are these really example signatures? Perhaps i just have a filthy mind, but most look like drawings of male reproductive parts. Should i adjust my signature to be more lewd?https://gitlab.com/edouardklein/falsisign/-/blob/master/Signature_example.pdf …

No, those all look like male reproductive parts to me too.
