Right?! Basically all the big chains I interact with on the coast (Star/Shaw's in Boston, Safeway here in SF) don't have butcher counters, and instead just sell meat pre-packaged in styrofoam trays

Periodically I tell folks that I'm a third culture kid because we're from Minneapolis but I grew up in IA, and (after explaining what a third culture kid is) they *still* look at me funny until I remind them that distance-wise that's like moving from London to the south of France
