Reading a favorite Berenstain Bears book with Lillian (5) she pointed at Papa Bear and asked: “What’s that?” “Papa Bear.” “No what is the paper he is holding.” “His newspaper.” “What is a newspaper?” And I realized: she’s never seen one, in five years.

Decades ago or more, there would usually be a few loose copies of the local newspapers left around in coffee shops, even bars. I recall that Starbucks in North America did still have that at least up until very roughly ten years or so, if it has even since ever ceased.

I still see WSJ, NYT, etc at my local SBUX in the US.
