“Why did your father read the WSJ?” He was a small businessman in real estate and partly wanted to be informed about e.g. which banks were expanding branch networks. Also it was sort of a talisman. (I used it as same for years.)

I used to read the paper a lot with my family. The feel of it, the sound, the smell were all important parts of the experience, as was discussing the articles. We still do discussion, but on social media, and the articles are now trash that I can’t get them to stop sharing.
