It is proceeding through parts of the world on a time lag, and while language barriers have delayed understanding of extent/severity, it is going to saturate offline and online social networks.

Imagine your 200 closest friends/family/colleagues. Image getting hour-by-hour updates from them at the hospital. Now imagine them forwarding those updates from their 200 closest friends/family/colleagues, plus the standard operations of traditional media and social media.

You may wish to electronically tone down your exposure for your own mental health. I recommend giving yourself permission to do that. This situation will likely not resolve itself in days or weeks.

There will also be extreme flareups over things which are not the common enemy, because some folks will be at the "Anxiously waiting during the last normal days" stage while others are grieving, and they talk. This is already happening, but you're going to see a lot more of it.

And so you're going to see firestorms over people signal boosting impassioned "How dare you X while I have Y" from folks with impeccably good reasons to be upset, with *very engaged* emergent networks of watchers.

Potential solutions feels similar. I've seen half a dozen each of hackathons, charities, & gift-cards-for-restaurants marketplaces Would much prefer consolidation into 1-2 effective versions of each, but there's so little top down leadership it's unlikely to happen organically

I think this is the first major disaster in the human history after the invention of the internet, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's complicated Previously we had choke points, which institutions could control and curb to prevent spread of information/misinformation, but not now

Even before this we were *just* coming to terms with how to think about information, truth and terms we took for granted on the internet. But this disaster will put a lot of them under stress, I sometimes wonder if we had all the globalisation but no comms channel like the...
