It’s *not* just a quality level or research thing. I have a couple of essays which were originally going to be message board comments, and they include two of my best ever.

I think I remember
@amyhoy saying something like Answering questions is infinitely easier than writing essays, so just write as if you answer questions (from people or your own), there's your article/essay -
it really solves the “can’t figure out how to direct my comments to a person i don’t know and can’t imagine” issue

Topic sentences are 10% of the word count but half the effort, and in an AMA you outsource them. So it's a petri dish. Or a macro expansion. Or rapid commoditization of the complement.

Hypothesis: The message board is the conversational equivalent of an asymmetric DDoS, where you are incentivized to write ten 500-word answers in a shorter time because people have already sent out their questions, indicating that they'd like a response

@jonathanallard Sooo, most emails are forms of questions too yet it seems to take the longest in@patio11's universe. Face it, Patrick, you're ordinary like the rest of us. You like doing the work you like the most so it feels easier :)#yourwelcomeevenifyouneveraskedformyhelpThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
