Signatures _do_ provide value though! If your signature is on a thing, then you have to argue that this signature is forged, instead of just "oh this wasn't my understanding of X". While it's easy to forge a signature technically, it's a pretty strong accusation to make!

You're arguing (I think) "there are some situations where signatures do provide some safety", which I agree with, but I was thinking "there are many situations where signatures are always required but provide no safety at all".
