Some candidates really want stability in their new adventure, and so counterpositioning against risky funded startups is a not-totally-unreasonable tact to take.

I will note, on the merits, that the supermajority of engineers are actually *not* paid by investor money or debt but rather by the fountains of cash shooting off of well-managed software-adjacent businesses, but many of those businesses have not started hiring remotely yet.
