This is an interesting company in a lot of ways; they've also become one of the largest financial firms in some products (~3rd largest credit card issuer in Japan?) by using their Internet distribution and operational edge to get massive scale on "cheaper" products.

do you recommend any particular provider? We are using some MVNO whose "unlimited data" is regularly throttled to 0

Agnostic. I use SoftBank and have through three changes in the name/company structure of the servive. My feeling is I pay a lot but rarely have issues. (Residential Internet for me is a lot worse, due to issues in my building specifically.)

Something more sxtreme happened in Romania a while back. A Dutch co entered the market, offering unlimited data/calls(no texts, but nobody uses those) for 3 euro, compared to 60+ at the time. Interestingly, competitors eventually dropped prices to half, but still competitive
