I worry that social media has gotten some people addicted to the feeling of being involved in a crisis. To the extent that demand for crises exceeds supply, crises can be either manufactured or pulled out of the dark matter of unfortunate events happening in the world daily.

"Is he subtweeting coronavirus?" No, but I am reasonably sure that I remember three months ago, and the people who are absolutely certain coronavirus is the biggest problem in the world today don't seem to have obviously changed in tenor from three months ago.

alternatively a lot of people are vastly more precarious than you and/or have friends who are so stuff that doesn’t bother you at all is potentially emotionally, physically or financially devastating to us

I’ve been preparing and advocating for a small village of people who get their news from TV and otherwise think this is no worse than the flu because although I’m not high risk, I know how to use twitter and have been following virologists for + months and know they are.

I live here. Intel says it’s the night janitor from Forest Hills Elementary school and that he is basically dying in the hospital and his room is guarded by CDC and he is in a drug induced coma. This is my neighborhood. Solid sources. He lives about 30 minutes away but works here

Pandemics are different than other crisis situations in that you need people to take it seriously and change behavior but not panic. It’s a fine line to walk but “Carry on as before” is bad advice. It’s more akin to hurricane preparedness.

Assassination of Sulieman and imminent war with Iran, if I'm counting right.

There are a number of people who have gotten the #COVID2019 spot-on, such as @biancoresearch , @ErikSTownsend, (investment folks) @DrEricDing @HelenBranswell . No panic, but also early folks who said "this is NOT just the flu".

There’s always a ‘biggest problem in the world’, by definition. It just happens to be 100-year-outbreak this time, on top of the incompetent and corrupt government before that, and the illegitimate election before that.
