Of course, both can be bad at what they're in the business of doing, and that can put them out of work. But VCs go out of business when they make bad predictions. Journalists go out of business when they don't tell stories consumers are interested in.

I think there’s a way to do VC which is about prediction and there is a way to do VC which is about being effective at sales on at least one of a two-sided marketplace, and the relative prevalence of these skills in the field is hotly contested.
