It just occurred to me how different the narrative around Twitter was in 2009 (citizen journalism, the Arab Spring) compared to 2016 (fake news, echo chambers, the attention economy, etc).

(I don’t think that is descriptively accurate, but I think that if I were e.g. a young reporter at the New York Times or aspiring young fiction writer, I would rate that as descriptively accurate.)

And so *of course* one feels like tech is a massive conspiracy to rebalance power at the expense of tiny, vulnerable social outcasts like New York Times reporters. That is their lived experience of tech every day and the through line to every convo with peers about it.
