Today’s edition of Money stuff covers block trades, which are one of *the* core problems in market microstructure, and the joys of the cryptocurrency exchanges discovering slippage on them is a thing. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-02-18/the-big-shareholders-get-bigger …pic.twitter.com/gzfI2YNFkN

Implementing the highlighted bit without causing massive slippage was level 2 in Stockfighter. Ahh, I miss it again. We wanted to turn almost every Matt Levine column ever into a challenge you could play with in an actually executing environment.

Wouldn't that apply only to market orders and not limit orders?

Narrowly yes, but the user actually wants to buy/sell one million shares at some notional “reasonable execution” versus having strong opinions on order type per se.

I periodically muse about the implementation details and want to put together, like, a Docker image that would let you play it or something similar locally, although see "free time, copious spare"

Stockfighter was some of the most fun I've had with online programming challenges.

Stockfighter was fantastic. I worked through everything when I got bored while taking a sabbatical from work. Got to the last challenge right before it taken offline. Glad microcorruption is still up though.

The solution is to constantly place and cancel large bids near the top of the book until the price starts drifting up towards your offers.... Just kidding

Have you and/or @tqbf done any long-form writing on why Stockfighter is no longer with us? I miss it, too, but "clients wanted a traditional recruiter" seems deserving of a more thorough critique.

Nope. I keep meaning to. Or kept meaning to. I haven’t thought about it for awhile.
