There's a way to read this as passive aggressive pique. To clarify: I'm legitimately curious. What is the job-to-be-done here? Is it that certain user populations trust "oral" communication more than things written on the Internet? Is it an attempt at bonding?

Some day I'd like to write "People don't come with an instruction manual, and other bugs in the world."

my dominant hypothesis is that these people are often fixated on getting *some* response, *any* response from someone else, so much so that they get tunnel vision and they don't think about the quality of the question similar energy as "not a question more of a comment really"

I agree with this take. I think it's sort of the level-1 takeaway from what everyone has been taught about "networking". Send an email! Ask a question! But they conflate interaction with valuable interaction, something we know !== the same thing.

From years of working on support / user ops - - people don't like reading the docs - there's a certain positive emotion to "being seen" and having a physical person think about your question. I suspect it's the same emotional link as people who rate "alternative" medicine (1)

... over seeing an actual doctor. One can only give you five minutes of perfunctory help, the other will give you useless info but feels better because they can take half an hour of full attention

Instruction manuals (especially for imports) and vague school textbooks have taught most people—the vast majority—that pre-written information is unreliable compared to the word of experts. If you are an expert (at anything), your experience had probably taught you the opposite.
