Should there be a Matt Levine of law? Well, could you get a lawyer to pay $200 a year for MLoL? Seems clearly a yes. Are there many more than 5,000 lawyers in the world? OK, done, that's viable and competitive with a moderately successful law practice. Logic generalizes.

Love the idea of recruiting folks to do this by pre-populating a subscriber base: eg 2k lawyers who commit to paying $10/mo once the right person comes along. I’d happily subscribe to the

@matt_levine is one of a kind. We cover disruption/restructuring/bankruptcy, and have 1000s of subscribers (yes, lots of lawyers but also investors, bankers, consultants) of which a subset of 1000s pay for our content & we know we’ll be even more popular when the market fades.

& of course, Ben Thompson! His take on how these individuals can be supported: https://stratechery.com/2017/the-faceless-publisher/ … "free distribution blew up the link between editorial and publishing and drove them in opposite directions — atomization on one side and massively greater scale on the other."
