I think I would endorse the truth of multiple of these arguments at various points in my career. My ambient impression is that folks think blogging is "so saturated right now" and: a) blogging is a terrible form factor for impact and value b) virtually no one writes enough well.https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1227612675334660099 …

But could you have known which 5 those were without writing 50 others?
-
Unclear, but I think the relevant question is "Can other people know this in advance, given their ability to freeride on my experience?" ;) Some of the experience is in this thread. Write on your beat rather than others', essays that will withstand time versus "blogging", etc.

This + ur previous tweet abt everybody should have 3 essays on their website suggests to me a process like this: - own a website - write as thoughtful as possible & publish - have two sections: 1. with the highlighted 3 pieces & 2 for everything else /1
-
- rebalance the published portfolio every once in a while (say 6 months) such as - dropping certain pieces altogether - promoting certain pieces to the highlighted section - demoting certain pieces to the everything else section Is that sound practice based on ur exp? /2

Yes, but how did you get to those 5 essays? Would they have come together for you without all the other writing? That's why I blog. Because there's diamonds in that dross, but I have to do the work.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

How did you come by your skill at writing? It seems like a lot of people spin blog -> skills and audience for deeper work.
