Even if you're thinking just salary and not fully loaded cost it's a totally absurd number.

I think I know how a geek could derive that number in good faith. It’s not a good estimate, but for limited purpose of debugging mental models: Much of middle America has companies/schools/etc where sysadmins are effectively IT++. $40k to $60k exists, even for material work.

One of the big reasons DevOps is so popular (and so useful) is that it encouraged people to award themselves an instant career upgrade from “moderately technical skilled trade” to “practicing engineer.”
