With an example for concreteness. Candidate: “I was denied promotion.” Hiring manager (thinks): “Oh so you were not exceeding expectations?” HM says: “Oh. Why?” Candidate: “My work was judged unfairly.” HM (thinks): “Do I believe that? Or do I believe they are miscalibrated?”

(1/2)What's one of your favorite responses to “Why did you leave your last job?/Why are you looking for a new job?” I'm in the process of leaving mine. Had an interview a couple months ago which I thought went well. They asked something similar and I answered along the lines of

(2/2) "I'm hungry for more responsibility and opportunity. I don't have a lot of growth opportunities in my current role with my current employer." This interview made me realize I should record future interviews so I can more accurately assess my answers afterwards.
