Similarly, when I do something which generates a standing wave of email (e.g. blog post or similar), I often make a temporary split to corral that out of my inbox so that I can be in the right headspace for a solid hour rather than interleaving with work or other commitments.
That is probably the best habit I've picked up from Superhuman, incidentally: I don't know if it is my sometimes limited ability to focus through task switches or something more widely applicable, but I get *much more done* when processing email by genre versus by timestamp.
Just reading the _subject line_ of an email that you’ll have to work through later, but is not in the headspace / project / flow you are in now, effects a mental tax and throws you off track. Might feel like a split second but probably has 2-3 minutes of lost flow associated.
Patrick, are you able to pipe all of your email now thru SH? I thought it was only able to connect to Gmail accounts
It works for Google Apps email, which has been my business/professional email for 10+ years now. (Google is the only company I trust to run an email service.)
A central thesis is to maintain flow in their users. I suspect a very under focussed attribute in most SaaS products. Agree? Not a metric that moves the needle in lost SaaS products, though?
Grouping related emails is one feature that google inbox had that unfortunately did not make the transition. It wasn’t amazing but it was still better than the current option.
