Yet instead of doing what would be fun, and thereby maybe solving stuff, people do what they're told they 'must', or what they think they 'should'.https://twitter.com/webdevMason/status/1222631434235473920 …

There's an old saw about "for want of a nail, the war was lost", but I think that has other-than-metaphorical quality to it. I feel with north of 90% confidence that I could have accelerated my career by plural years for about $2,000 and a cup of coffee, for example.

Is that $2k of present-your time, or $2k funding? Hard part there has to be finding people with a 1% chance of being patio12, right?

patio11 - as an aside - have you thought about creating your own venture fund? you've (1) built a great reputation by publishing so much great content and (2) seem to really understand the internet economy...that's basically your job at Stripe if I understand correctly

I’ve thought about a lot of things. Quite engaged at Stripe at the moment; not sure whether next adventure will be a software company, a fund, or something a bit more exotic.

This is definitely borne out by my experiences with the allocation of resources *inside* organizations, where the most impactful things I've done were done in small chunks of stolen time.

This is sort of a strong form of YC's original thesis no? And now Pioneer? Anyways, it seems true, and especially interesting outside tech. I'm amazed how often community scale projects stress about <$2k in expenses. Only need 1 in 50 to grow into ~something~, given $100k rule
