Simple things like "You're basically going to inevitably eventually have web servers serving live users and the API, worker processes doing aynchronous heavy lifting, and a job queue. You probably *will not* implement a message bus in the way large software shops would."

"Monoliths versus microservices: Make it a monolith. Done. You won't have sufficient organizational complexity to justify the engineering tax of microservices until you have multiple engineering teams, and plausibly your company never gets there."

"You will use cloud hosting on one provider for the lifetime of the company. Portability is overrated. You will automate deploys. You will automate testing, including continuous integration relatively early but probably not continuous deployment."

If only the software stack would stabilize long enough for a book to be published
-
I think you could copy Bingo Card Creator's tech stack from, say, 2009, bump the version on everything to latest, and have a perfectly servicable SaaS company stack. Might add React or Ansible to it, but painting pixels on a web site in response to requests not a moving target.

Not just a book. There’s a large opportunity to build a hosted platform that gives you all the table stakes functionality, i.e. Shopify for SaaS.
-
My hint to most SaaS entrepreneurs, particularly B2B bootstrapped: Write the book first since you’re inevitably going to write it, poorly, for content marketing for the SaaS platform anyway.

I'm honestly surprised an off the shelf framework for SaaS companies doesn't exist yet. Users, permissions, notifications/email, internal dashboards, recurring billing, etc. are pretty universal.

True story: Really wanted to write this post-
@churnbuster and post-https://borrowedandblue.com . Got started on a series covering a lot of this with@TheCraigHewitt, but realized a few weeks in that the correct vehicle for a lot of this guidance was a repo. Enter@bullettrainco.
